Who Should I Hire for My Move-In List: a Mover, Handyman, or Installer?
Book a mover to transport and place furniture, a handyman for a list of small household jobs, and an installer for work that depends on the product, wall, or layout. Start with a list of tasks by room, then ask each provider what’s included. Some jobs can share a visit when one provider confirms they can handle the full list.
Which jobs should go to each crew?
Mover
Use the moving crew for loading, transport, unloading, and placing larger furniture in the right rooms. If an existing bed frame or table needs to come apart for the move, ask whether taking it apart and putting it back together are both included.
Handyman
Use a handyman for a group of small tasks, such as tightening cabinet hardware, adjusting a sticking interior door, or assembling a simple piece of furniture. Send the whole list before booking so the provider can confirm what they cover and allow enough time.
Installer
Use an installer for a specific setup, such as a large TV and soundbar, fitted window treatments, or a modular storage system. Share product details, measurements, and photos of the intended location so the installer can tell you what needs to be ready.
Three questions to ask before you book
- Who is finishing each job? “Put the bed in the bedroom” could mean placing the parts in the room or leaving you with an assembled frame. Ask which one is included.
- What needs to be on site first? Match each appointment to its deliveries. A boxed desk needs to arrive before assembly, and the TV and mount details should be confirmed before booking installation.
- Which jobs can share a visit? Send one room-by-room list with photos, product models, and any building instructions. Ask the provider to confirm what they can do together and which items need a separate visit.
Example — You have an existing bed, a new desk, and a TV to mount
Ask the mover to confirm whether reassembling your existing bed is part of the move. Schedule the boxed desk after its delivery, and include any small repairs you want done during that visit. For the TV, wait until the sofa is in its intended spot, then send the installer a photo of the wall, the TV model, and details of any mount or soundbar you already have. If one provider can assemble the desk and handle the TV setup, ask for a combined scope before booking.
Have a move-in list and aren’t sure who to call first?
Bring your room photos, delivery dates, and task list. We’ll help you work out what to ask the mover to include, which setup jobs can go together, and what to check before booking installation.
