What should Emerson students know before moving downtown?
Emerson’s Boston campus is concentrated around Boylston Street, Boston Common, the Theatre District and Downtown Crossing. Unlike a traditional enclosed campus, classrooms, residence halls, theatres, dining, transportation and city streets are closely intertwined.
Students living in Emerson housing should follow their assigned arrival time and residence-hall instructions. Students living off campus must also plan the commute, lease, utilities, roommate purchases, building access and apartment setup.

Emerson has published the following general dates for new Boston campus students. Students should check their housing portal for their individual assigned arrival time.
Housing requirement
Are Emerson students required to live on campus?
New first-time students entering Emerson in a fall semester are generally required to live in College housing for their first six semesters. Students entering in spring generally have a five-semester requirement.
Transfer students do not have the same residency requirement. On-campus housing for transfer students and students who have completed the requirement depends on availability and the housing application process.
Students living in College housing sign a full academic-year housing contract and are required to participate in a College meal plan.

Where do Emerson students live on campus?
Emerson operates five residence halls near its downtown Boston academic buildings and performance spaces.
Little Building
Located at 80 Boylston Street, Little Building is Emerson’s largest residence hall and houses first-year students in single, double and triple rooms with shared floor bathrooms.
2 Boylston Place
An 18-story residence hall with single, double and triple rooms in suite-style arrangements, shared bathrooms, lounges, kitchens and laundry facilities.
Colonial Building
Located at 100 Boylston Street with single and double rooms in suite-style arrangements, shared lounges, kitchens and laundry.
Piano Row
Located at 150 Boylston Street and offering suite-style student housing near classrooms, dining and campus activities.
Paramount Center
Located at 555 Washington Street with student housing, classrooms, performance spaces and screening facilities in the same building.
Residence Services
Emerson residence halls include Wi-Fi, laundry, lounge space, kitchens, streaming television service and other shared amenities.

How Emerson College move-in works
Check the housing portal
Review the assigned residence hall, individual arrival time and any building-specific instructions posted by Housing and Residential Education.
Arrive during the assigned timeslot
Emerson asks students to follow their assigned arrival period to reduce lines and congestion. Students should still be prepared for possible check-in delays.
Request a change when necessary
Students with an unavoidable conflict may request another time through the housing portal after the adjustment form opens.

College furniture must remain in its assigned room. Commercially manufactured bed risers may be allowed, but cinder blocks, bricks and stacked wood are not permitted.
Dorm-room limitations
Do not treat an Emerson dorm like an apartment
Residence-hall students should not drill, install permanent shelves, mount a television or alter College furniture without clear written permission. Even removable products can cause damage to painted or finished surfaces.
