Dallas Moving & Home-Sale Prep Guide

Plan your Dallas move around truck access, the delivery window, and the date the old home needs to be empty. Show the mover the driveway or loading entrance before booking. If you’re leaving furniture behind, check the collection schedule early. If you’re selling, separate the work needed before listing photos from the final cleanout before the walkthrough.

What to plan for your Dallas move or sale

Moving to or within Dallas

Send the mover the exact entrance and photos of the driveway, curb, or loading dock. For a gated community, confirm how the truck and crew will check in. For an apartment or condo, ask whether the loading area and elevator need reservations. Share the usable time window before accepting an arrival range.

Selling a Dallas-area home

Ask your agent which rooms will lead the listing, then make a list of what needs clearing or touching up in those rooms. Include the garage, patio, and storage areas in the cleanout plan. Book repairs and painting before the final clean, and confirm what fixtures or appliances are expected to stay before removal crews arrive.

Furniture delivery and decorating

Measure the full route to the room before ordering large furniture, including stairs or turns into upstairs bedrooms. Once the main pieces are placed, mark where you want curtains, mirrors, and shelving. Group installation jobs around confirmed deliveries so the provider has the products and hardware needed for the visit.

TV mounting and DIY

Take a wide photo of the intended TV wall showing the seating and outlets. Share the TV and bracket model numbers, along with any soundbar or equipment you want included. If the wall construction is unclear, have it checked before drilling. Confirm any landlord or building instructions before booking.

Will Dallas bulk collection fit your move-out date?

City of Dallas residential customers receive monthly brush and bulky-item collection. Check your address’s collection week and the allowed set-out window before planning to leave furniture for city pickup. Confirm which items are accepted and whether your load fits the service limits. If your final walkthrough comes before collection, arrange another option while you still have access.

If your apartment uses private collection, ask management about bulky-item removal. For an address elsewhere in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, check the city or provider serving that address.

Example — The movers come Friday, but bulk pickup is later

Suppose you’re leaving a dining set and mattress behind and the buyer’s walkthrough is Saturday. Check the city collection week before deciding where those items will go. If the schedule falls after the walkthrough, compare a confirmed donation pickup for the dining set with a removal quote covering both items. Ask who will carry them out and leave time for a backup if either pickup changes.
