Atlanta Moving & Home-Sale Prep Guide
Start with the exact address, the truck access, and the dates you need each home ready. For an Atlanta condo, confirm the loading entrance and elevator window. For a house, show the mover the driveway and the route to the rooms. If you’re selling, coordinate clearing, repairs, painting, and cleaning around listing photos, then plan the final removal of belongings before the walkthrough.
What to plan for your Atlanta move or sale
Moving to or within Atlanta
Send the mover the actual loading entrance and photos of the driveway, curb, or loading dock. Ask whether the truck can use that route and whether a longer carry changes the estimate. If your building reserves an elevator, confirm how much time the crew needs to check in, unload, and finish.
Selling an Atlanta-area home
Take doorway photos of the main rooms and ask your agent what should be cleared before listing photos. Include the garage, basement, and outdoor storage in your removal list. Finish dusty repairs and painting before the final clean, and confirm what’s expected to stay with the house before hauling anything uncertain.
Furniture delivery and decorating
Measure the route from the delivery entrance to the room before ordering large furniture. Once the sofa, bed, and desk are in place, decide where you want curtains, mirrors, and shelves. Group the jobs that are ready, and send product details and room photos before booking assembly or installation.
TV mounting and DIY
Take a wide photo of the intended TV wall from your usual seat. Include the outlets and equipment you want connected. Share the TV and mount model numbers, and have the mounting surface checked if you’re unsure what’s behind it. In a rental or managed building, confirm which changes are allowed before booking.
Can you schedule furniture pickup before moving day?
For eligible City of Atlanta residents, bulk collection must be scheduled and takes place on the regular weekly collection day. Use ATL311 to check the current instructions and confirm the date before setting anything out. If your apartment or condo uses private collection, ask management what it can arrange. For an address elsewhere in metro Atlanta, check that city, county, or private provider.
Example — Leaving a house for a Midtown condo
Suppose the condo offers a Friday afternoon elevator slot, but your old sofa and garage shelves aren’t coming. Confirm their pickup separately from the move and leave time for a backup if either item is declined. Send the mover the destination building’s access instructions, then ask whether the planned morning load leaves enough time to reach the condo and unload within the reservation.
