Arrival procedure

How Emmanuel move-in day works

Choose the appointment

Sign into the Emmanuel housing portal and reserve an available arrival time for the assigned residence-hall move-in day.

Begin at the Library Parking Lot

Students and families are initially welcomed in the Library Parking Lot and then directed toward the appropriate residence unloading area.

Back the vehicle into the unloading space

Student leaders may meet the vehicle with a moving bin and help escort belongings toward the student’s housing assignment.

Move the empty vehicle

After unloading, move the vehicle to the directed parking location or a nearby paid garage, depending on the residence and date.

Parking and unloading

Bring a backup dolly or moving cart

Moving bins are limited

Emmanuel provides a limited number of moving bins during scheduled move-in. Bringing a folding dolly or rolling cart can help reduce delays.

St. Julie parking is different

Long-term campus parking is not available for the August 31 St. Julie move-in. Drivers staying after unloading should plan to use a paid garage in the surrounding area.

Before purchasing storage

Measure before buying large room products

Emmanuel lists an average double-room size of approximately 11 feet by 18 feet and an average window size of approximately 6 feet by 4 feet 8 inches.

These are averages rather than guarantees. Room layouts vary, and university furniture must remain in the assigned room.

Packing for Emmanuel

Bring practical residence-hall essentials

  • Bedding for the assigned mattress
  • Pillows, blankets and towels
  • Toiletries and shower supplies
  • Laundry basket and detergent
  • Hangers and compact storage
  • Computer and charging equipment
  • Approved surge protector
  • Desk and school supplies
  • Basic cleaning supplies
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Medications and important documents
  • Roommate-coordinated shared products
Check Emmanuel’s current “What to Bring” list shortly before arrival. The college may revise permitted appliances, decorations and electrical equipment without advance notice.

Residence furniture

University furniture must remain in the room

Emmanuel residence rooms are furnished. Students may reposition the provided furniture within the room but may not remove it from the assigned space.

Wait until the student sees the actual room before buying large seating, freestanding storage or optional furnishings.

Protect the residence room

Do not permanently mount equipment in an Emmanuel dorm

Students should not drill, mount televisions, install permanent shelving or alter college furniture unless current written Residence Life policies specifically permit the work.

Use approved removable décor and freestanding storage that does not block exits, windows, ventilation or fire-safety equipment.
